LET THE KIDS PLAY
24 SPORTS POLICIES
Roster Policy
Our roster policy is designed to ensure accuracy and fairness in team composition. The following guidelines outline our expectations:
Roster Submission: Rosters must be submitted by 12:00 p.m. the day before the first game is scheduled to be played. The roster will be locked at the time the first game is started. This allows for proper preparation and administration.
Player Name Accuracy: The player's name on the roster must be spelled correctly and match the name (full first and last name) on the child's birth certificate. If a child is commonly known by a nickname and listed as such on the game lineup card, the nickname must also be included on the online roster.
Player Numbers: Coaches are expected to provide accurate player numbers on the online roster before the first game. The player number on the online roster should match the numbers on the game lineup card. This helps ensure smooth game operations and proper identification of players.
Roster Protests: Roster protests must be initiated by the head coach of record and made by the end of the first completed inning of a game. Protests raised after the first inning will not be considered.
Protesting Player Eligibility: If a player is deemed ineligible based on the roster policy either through a protest or administrative action by 24 Sports staff, the player in question must be immediately removed from the game. The team will take an out, and the player will be required to sit out the remainder of the tournament.
No Team Forfeits: Roster protests will not result in a team forfeit. Instead, the focus is on ensuring accurate roster composition and fair play.
Insurance Policy
24 Sports requires teams to have appropriate insurance coverage. The following policy outlines the requirements and guidelines related to team insurance:
-
Coverage: Team insurance coverage must be obtained and provided prior to the first game played. It is the responsibility of the team to secure the necessary insurance coverage that meets the required standards.
-
Compliance: If a team fails to provide proof of insurance coverage that complies with the specified requirements, they will not be able to participate in any event until insurance is in compliance. No concessions or exceptions will be made, and refunds will not be issued for missed games or events.
-
Claims Process: In the unfortunate event of an injury, eligible individuals must follow the designated claims process as outlined by the insurance provider. This may include providing relevant medical documentation, completing claim forms, and adhering to any additional requirements specified by the insurance provider. Once you submit a claim, the insurance provider will contact us for proper information.
-
Coverage Limitations: It is important to note that insurance coverage may have limitations, deductibles, and exclusions specific to the policy obtained by the team. Participants are advised to familiarize themselves with the terms and conditions of the insurance policy to fully understand the extent of the coverage provided.
Please ensure that your team obtains and maintains appropriate insurance coverage to protect the well-being of all participants. Compliance with this policy is mandatory, and failure to adhere to the insurance requirements may result in the team's inability to participate in our events.
We appreciate your attention to this matter and commitment to the safety and welfare of all individuals involved in our programs.

If I purchase insurance through 24 Sports will it be valid for other sanctions/organizations? Yes, if you purchase insurance through 24 Sports, it will generally be valid for other sanctions/organizations as well. The coverage provided by the insurance applies to the rostered kids during practice and gameplay. Proof of Age: 24 Sports staff may request proof of age at any time during the tournament. Parents are expected to provide a birth certificate and school record as proof of age for their child. The most reliable form of identity verification is through the child's online school record. If the online school record is unavailable, 24 Sports staff will exercise their best judgment to determine age eligibility.
Our age protest policy ensures the integrity of age divisions and fair competition. The following guidelines outline the process:
-
Timing of Protests: Age protests must be initiated by the end of the first completed inning of a game. Protests raised after the first inning will not be considered.
-

b. Head Coach Consequence: The head coach will be ejected from the current game and restricted to the dugout for the remainder of the tournament.
- Team Continuation: Despite the ineligible player and ejected head coach, the team will be permitted to continue playing in the tournament with the remaining eligible players and a designated coach.
Classifications Policy
Our classifications policy is designed to promote development, enhance skills, and provide a fair and challenging competition environment for athletes. We recognize that competition can be demanding for kids, parents, and coaches, leading to tension and anxiety both during games and in the days leading up to events. The existing classification system in travel ball globally is often fragmented, with different organizations implementing various methods to balance competition levels. This creates a burden for tournament directors and staff, as they try to cater to coaches and parents seeking to avoid the challenges that competition brings, ultimately hindering the growth of athletes.
To address these concerns, we have chosen to define competition based on the level of play rather than making assumptions about a team's likelihood of winning. Our classification system provides guardrails at the lowest level to facilitate development for players and coaches who are still learning. As the level of play increases, these guardrails will be lifted, allowing teams to face greater challenges and test their baseball acumen.
The classification levels we have established are as follows:
Single A / Level 1: This level is suitable for teams that are still developing or may be transitioning from recreational league play to travel ball. The rules at this level will be the most restricted and modified, aimed at evening out the competition and providing a platform for learning and development.
Double A / Level 2: Teams at this level have progressed further in their development and are ready to face more competitive opponents. The rules will be less restrictive, but still incorporate some modifications to ensure a balanced competition. This level is ideal for teams (players, parents, and coaches) who are building confidence in managing adversity and have developed a fundamental understanding of baseball IQ.
Triple A / Level 3: This level is designed for teams that have mastered the fundamentals and are ready to compete without guardrails and rule modifications. These teams (parents, kids, and coaches) are comfortable working through adversity and have the confidence to overcome the physical and mental challenges that the game presents. Seeking challenging competition, they are prepared to test their skills and baseball acumen.
Majors / Level 4: Teams at this level are seeking the ultimate challenge and are determined to put their skills to the test. Having mastered the fundamentals and excelled at the Triple A / Level 3 within their age division, they are ready to compete at the highest level. Umpires at this level will be more explicit in rule interpretation, expecting all participants (players, coaches, and parents) to be well-versed in the rules and demonstrate a high level of baseball knowledge and skill.
By providing these distinct classification levels, we aim to offer teams of varying skill levels a suitable competitive environment while ensuring that each team can progress at their own pace. This approach enables teams to develop, build confidence, and take on challenges that align with their skill level and aspirations. To maintain consistency and fairness, 24 Sports will solely consider team classification based on its own guidelines and will not take into account team classification from any other sanction or organization. We trust coaches to register their teams for the appropriate level of play that aligns with their desired physical and mental development goals. Furthermore, 24 Sports challenges coaches to lead their players and families in seeking challenges that foster growth, not only on the field but also in various aspects of their lives. By embracing these principles, we aim to create an environment where teams can thrive and individuals can reach their full potential.
Scores and Bracket Seeding Procedures
The umpire card will serve as the official score of record and must be confirmed and signed by the head coach and/or the team scorekeeper. In the event of any score discrepancies, it is required to notify the site director within 1 hour of the score update.
Bracket seeding will be determined according to the following criteria:
-
Pool Play Record: The team's win-loss record during the pool play stage will be taken into consideration for seeding purposes.
-
Total Runs Allowed: In the event of teams having the same pool play record, the total number of runs allowed by each team will be evaluated. The team with the lower number of runs allowed will receive a higher seeding.
-
Run Differential: If teams still have an equal number of runs allowed, the run differential will be considered. The run differential is calculated by subtracting the total runs scored against a team from the total runs scored by that team. A higher run differential will result in a better seeding.
-
Head-to-Head: If only two teams are tied based on the above criteria, head-to-head results between the tied teams will determine the seeding. The team with the better head-to-head record will receive the higher seed.
-
Coin Flip: If none of the previous criteria provide a clear distinction for seeding, a coin flip will be used as a tiebreaker to determine the final seeding.
Protest Policy
To ensure clarity and fairness in game proceedings, we have established the following guidelines for protests, challenges, and coach designations:
-
Head Coach of Record: The head coach of record for each game is the coach who attends the conference with the umpires at the plate. Protests and challenges must be made by the head coach of record.
-
Notifying Protests and Challenges: Protests and challenges must be brought to the attention of the plate umpire, who will then inform the site director. Protests or challenges made by phone or to anyone other than the plate umpire, or by anyone other than the head coach of record, will not be considered. There will be no fee for filing protests; however, it is important to note that excessive or frivolous protests may be addressed by the 24 Sports staff. If protests are deemed to be excessive or frivolous in nature, the staff reserves the right to take appropriate action, such as ejecting or expelling the head coach from the tournament for the remaining games. Our aim is to ensure that protests are legitimate and serve the purpose of maintaining fair play and integrity throughout the tournament.
-
Ejected Head Coach: If the head coach of record is ejected from the game, the team may designate an assistant coach to become the new head coach of record. All coaches must be listed in the team profile for proper consideration.
-
Protest Eligibility: Protests may only be made by individuals listed on the team profile and must pertain to the following issues: age eligibility (to be made by the first completed inning), missing names on the roster (to be made by the first completed inning), illegal equipment, and pitch count infractions.
-
Space and Time for Evaluation: Once the site director has been notified of a protest, it is expected that all participants give space and time for the site director to evaluate and process the situation. Participants should resume watching the game until resolution is provided by 24 Sports staff.
-
Challenges: Challenges may be made by the head coach of record and are limited to rule interpretation. Umpire judgment calls, such as balls, strikes, safe, out, and balks, may not be questioned.
-
Maintaining Civility: We understand that tensions can rise in high-stakes or closely contested games. If there is a question or concern about umpire behavior or the opposing team behavior, an assistant coach or scorekeeper may respectfully approach the site director and request their observation. Participants are expected to remain civil and respectful, even in situations of heightened tension. The site director may implement the ejection policy if they believe the situation is escalating.
By following these guidelines, we aim to ensure fair and respectful game management, allowing for proper evaluation of protests and challenges while maintaining a positive environment for all participants.
Bat Protest Policy
Bat Protest Policy
In the event of a bat protest, the following procedure will be followed, and appropriate penalties will be applied, keeping the best interest of the participants in mind. All decisions made by 24 Sports staff are final and must be respected.
Coaches and parents are requested to provide space and time for 24 Sports staff to evaluate and process the protest. Once the staff has been made aware of the protest, the reporting parent or coach shall resume watching the game until notified otherwise by 24 Sports staff.
-
Initial Notice of Protest: The initial notice of protest must be made during the inning when the bat is first used. Protests in subsequent innings may only be initiated by the umpire.
-
Official Protest: The initial notice of protest should be made by the Head Coach of record to the plate umpire. Protests made by anyone other than the Head Coach of record or phone calls or direct communication with the site director or tournament director will not be considered an official protest. Once the umpire is notified, they will inform the site director of the protest. The game will continue to play as normal unless otherwise instructed by the umpire.
-
Evaluation by Site Director: Once notified, the site director will visit the dugout to evaluate the bat in question. The evaluation may take place in the dugout, or the site director may confiscate the bat for further evaluation. The game will continue to play, and the player may resume play with a different approved bat.
-
Bat Evaluation: The site director will first refer to the 24 Sports Bat List Reference Guide for listed illegal bats and then evaluate the bat according to the 24 Sports Bat Rules in accordance with NFHS standards.
-
Determination of Bat: If 24 Sports staff cannot definitively determine if the bat is illegal by NFHS standards but considers the bat to be a distraction in the game, they may decide to remove the bat without penalty. If the site director determines that the bat should not be returned to the game, they will notify the umpire and the coach. A tag will be applied to the bat, and the site director will confiscate the bat for the remainder of the games played that day. The bat can be picked up by the coach or parent after the team's last game is played, or the parent may choose to take the bat to their vehicle.
-
Illegal Bat Penalty: If a bat is deemed illegal by 24 Sports staff according to NFHS rules or is listed as illegal in the 24 Sports Bat List Reference Guide, the batter is considered out if the determination is made in the same inning the bat is used, and any runs scored from that hit are void. If the determination is made in a subsequent inning after the bat was used, the score from the previous inning stands, and that batter shall be considered out in the next inning.
-
Disputed Decision: If the decision is not respectfully accepted by the team, the ejection policy applies.
Cancellation and Refund Policy
Payment Policy: The gate fee must be paid at the time of registration to secure your spot. Please note that your team will not be considered confirmed until the gate fee is received. Full payment for the tournament must be completed no later than 7 days prior to the tournament date. In the event that the gate fee is received, but full payment has not been received within 7 days prior to the tournament date, our team will make every effort to contact you to confirm your participation. However, if we are unable to reach you and receive confirmation, your team may be placed on a waitlist until we can secure your spot. If we have received your registration for the tournament but have not received any payment within 7 days prior to the tournament date, your team will be automatically placed on the waitlist. We kindly request your understanding that tournaments can sell out quickly, and securing your spot in advance is essential.
At 24 Sports, our primary focus is on providing an opportunity for kids to play and have a positive experience. While we understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise, our policy regarding refunds and cancellations is as follows:
-
Refunds: Once payment has been made, refunds will generally not be issued. However, we recognize that there are situations beyond our control that may warrant flexibility.
-
Cancellations: In the event that a team cancels their participation within 7 days of the event start date and before the schedule has been published, transferable tournament credits will be provided. Cancellations made after the schedule has been published will not be eligible for a refund unless otherwise noted by 24 Sports. Teams that forfeit after games have started will not receive a refund or transferable credit.
-
Weather: Safety is our top priority, especially when it comes to outdoor sports. We understand that adverse weather conditions can impact gameplay. We work closely with city officials and 24 Sports advisors to make informed decisions in the best interest of keeping the kids safe.
- In the event of unfavorable weather conditions, we may delay the start of games and assess field conditions. If the weather persists and prevents gameplay even after a delay, we will either reschedule or cancel the game.
- For games canceled due to rainouts or inclement weather, our Cancellation and Refund Policy will apply:
- If no games have started, a 100% transferable credit will be provided.
- If one game has started, a 50% transferable credit will be provided.
- If two games have started, no credit will be provided.
Lightning Policy: Lightning poses a significant threat to outdoor sports, and we prioritize the safety of all participants. Our lightning policy is based on guidelines from NFHS, NCAA, and the National Weather Service:
- Lightning activity is monitored using Perry Weather Technology or a similar application.
- If lightning is detected within a 10-mile radius, gameplay must be suspended for 30 minutes from the last lightning strike.
- The 30-minute countdown restarts with each subsequent lightning strike within the 10-mile radius.
- Coaches, players, and spectators must seek shelter in their vehicles during lightning delays.
- Gameplay will resume once 30 minutes have passed since the last lightning strike within the 10-mile radius.
- If lightning delays extend beyond 2 hours, a schedule decision will be made by 24 Sports Management. We kindly ask for your understanding and patience as schedule changes can be complex. Head coaches will be the initial point of contact, and we will strive to communicate updates in a timely manner.
Shortening Game Duration: Game duration is standardized based on age divisions as follows:
- Coach Pitch (6U-8U) games have a duration of 1 hour and 15 minutes
- Kid Pitch (9U-14U) games have a duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes.
During Pool Play, if there are less than 5 minutes remaining in the game, a new inning will not start; however, the home team will have the opportunity to finish the current inning if they are down.
In cases of inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances that impact the schedule, game durations may be shortened to avoid games ending after 11:00 p.m. This decision is made in the best interest of the players and 24 Sports staff, as well as in accordance with the regulations of the contract between 24 Sports and the municipalities where the event is run.
When shortening games, our priority is to maintain fairness by allowing the home team the final at-bat whenever possible. In the event that a drop-dead time needs to be implemented, the final score will be determined based on the last completed inning.
Please note that in the event of game shortening, those games will still be considered completed, and no refunds will be issued.
Ejection Policy
We are committed to providing a fun and safe experience for everyone at our events. While winning is a desirable outcome, we acknowledge that it is not something we can control. The competitive nature of the game can sometimes lead us to act out of character, and there may be certain aspects of organized sports that cause tension among adults, such as scheduling, payment, and rosters, which may be outside of the kids' understanding. It is crucial for all participants to work together to prevent escalations and de-escalate when tensions arise, ultimately benefiting the experience for everyone involved.
Our ejection policy is designed as follows:
Level 1: WARN - If the behavior is deemed inappropriate but manageable, our staff will issue a warning to the participant. The participant is expected to immediately cease the behavior and resume participation in accordance with the code of conduct rules.
Level 2: RESTRICT - If the behavior persists, our staff may choose to restrict the participant in an appropriate capacity. For example, coaches may be asked to stay in the dugout, and parents may be requested to move away from the fence area.
Level 3: EJECT - If the behavior continues or becomes offensive to the extent that it necessitates ejection, our staff may opt to remove the participant from the game or facility, depending on the situation. For instance, coaches may be asked to leave the game area, and parents may be directed to the concession stand or other designated areas.
Level 4: EXPEL - Behavior that cannot be effectively de-escalated may result in the complete removal of the participant from the premises and relocation to the parking lot. In such cases, the participant may not participate in any further event activities for the remainder of the day without consent from the tournament director. All level 4 infractions will be escalated to the tournament director, who will determine the resolution.
Level 5: BAN - If the behavior escalates to the point of causing significant security risks, the participant must leave the park and is prohibited from returning for the duration of the event. Additionally, the participant will be required to complete an emotional intelligence course and a code of conduct assessment before being allowed to participate in any future 24 Sports events, subject to approval by 24 Sports Management.
Any act of violence or significant threat of violence that requires law enforcement intervention will result in an immediate and irrevocable ban. Offenders may be subject to a criminal trespass for all 24 Sports events in any city, along with a $1,000 fine. The offender's name must be accessible to 24 Sports. If the name is not provided to 24 Sports, the head coach will assume responsibility for the team's behavior until the name is disclosed.
Banned participants will be issued written documentation from 24 Sports, which will be distributed to all 24 staff and affiliates, as well as shared with each municipality where 24 Sports operates. If the team wishes to participate in future 24 Sports events, they may do so without the banned participant(s), as outlined in the written documentation.
We firmly believe that adhering to this ejection policy will contribute to the overall well-being and positive environment for all participants.
TOURNAMENT RULES
24 Sports follows NFHS (National Federation High School Baseball Rules) except where explicitly noted.
24 Sports staff reserves the right to amend any rules, as necessary, at their discretion and with the sole aim of benefiting the participants in that specific event. Rest assured that any modifications will be made with careful consideration and in the best interest of everyone involved.
Sportsmanship and Code of Conduct
At 24 Sports, we prioritize sportsmanship and expect all participants to uphold the highest standards of conduct. Our sportsmanship policy promotes a positive and respectful environment for everyone involved. The following guidelines outline our expectations:
-
Civil Behavior: All participants are expected to act with civility at all times. We understand that the competitive nature of the game can sometimes lead to emotional responses, but it is crucial to maintain composure and avoid behavior that is out of character. Tensions among adults can be distressing for children and undermine the purpose of creating a fun and safe learning environment.
- Smoking and Alcohol Use: Smoking and alcohol are strictly prohibited at all 24 Sports events. Participants, including players, coaches, parents, and spectators, are not allowed to smoke or consume alcohol within the event premises. If anyone is caught smoking, they will be asked to extinguish the cigarette or move to the designated smoking area outside the event venue. Additionally, 24 Sports staff reserves the right to take action if they suspect the use of alcohol by any participant. Suspicion of alcohol use may arise from the smell of alcohol on a person or through the observation of behavior. If 24 Sports staff suspects alcohol use based on observation or smell, immediate action must be taken to rectify the situation. Failure to comply may result in the application of the ejection policy, including the involvement of law enforcement if necessary.
-
Ejection Policy: If it is determined that a participant is in violation of the sportsmanship policy, the ejection policy will be enforced accordingly. This ensures that the integrity of the game is upheld and that all athletes and coaches adhere to established rules and guidelines.
-
Fair Play: Teams should not seek an unfair competitive advantage over their opponents. This includes any attempt to intimidate, distract, or employ skills that the game was not designed to test. Such actions demonstrate a lack of personal integrity and compromise the integrity of the sport.
-
Noisemakers: The use of noisemakers, including but not limited to matracas, thunder sticks, clappers, cowbells, and airhorns, is strictly prohibited. Excessive yelling or distracting sounds from music speakers may also be considered as part of the noisemaker category. Music is welcomed and encouraged, but it should adhere to the sportsmanship policy. All music must have clean lyrics, and it should not be used to taunt or intimidate the opposing team or umpires. Teams should alternate music play between defensive warm-up music and offensive walk-up music, and umpires reserve the right to silence all music if necessary.
-
Responsibility and Respect: Sportsmanship requires players and coaches to take responsibility for their performance and actions on the field, including their emotions. Athletes should show respect for teammates, opponents, coaches, and officials. Coaches should demonstrate respect for their players, opponents, and officials. Fans, especially parents, should show respect for other fans, both teams, and officials. Profanity, insults, disparaging remarks, and microaggressions are strictly prohibited. Such behavior may result in immediate ejection or expulsion from the event.
By maintaining a respectful and positive atmosphere, we create an inclusive and supportive environment where all participants can enjoy the game and focus on their personal growth and development.
Player Behavior: All kids are held to the same standards listed above. At the discretion of the 24 Sports staff, the associated adult (coach or parent) may bear the responsibility for the player's behavior and be subject to the consequences imposed. If a player disrespects an umpire by using profanity or making disparaging remarks, the player is subjected to ejection. During gameplay, all players must actively seek to avoid physical contact (No Malicious Contact). The determination of malicious contact is a judgment call made by the umpire and may result in ejection of the player and head coach.
-
Consequences for Expulsion: If a participant is expelled from an event based on Level 4 of our ejection policy, they must complete an emotional intelligence course and code of conduct assessment before being allowed to participate in any future 24 Sports events. This requirement is designed to promote personal growth, self-reflection, and ensure a commitment to respectful and sportsmanlike behavior.
By implementing this requirement, we aim to provide an opportunity for individuals to learn from their actions, develop their emotional intelligence, and reaffirm their commitment to upholding the values of respect and sportsmanship in all 24 Sports events.
By adhering to these sportsmanship guidelines, we create an environment where fair play, respect, and personal integrity thrive, fostering a rewarding experience for all involved.

- Barrel. The barrel is the area intended for contact with the pitch. The barrel shall be round, cylindrically symmetric and smooth. The barrel may be aluminum, wood or composite (made of two or more materials). The type of bat (wood, aluminum or composite) shall be determined by the composition of the barrel.
- Taper. The taper is an optional transition area which connects the narrower handle to the wider barrel portion of the bat. Its length and material may vary but may not extend more than 18 inches from the base of the knob.
- End Cap. The end cap is made of rubber, vinyl, plastic or other approved material. It shall be firmly secured and permanently affixed to the end of the bat so that it cannot be removed by anyone other than the manufacturer, without damaging or destroying it. By definition, a one-piece construction bat does not have an end cap.
Each bat not made of a single piece of wood shall:
- Have a safety grip made of cork, tape (no smooth, plastic tape) or commercially manufactured composition material.
- The grip must extend a minimum of 10 inches, but not more than 18 inches, from the base of the knob.
- Slippery tape or similar material shall be prohibited.
- Resin, pine tar or any drying agent to enhance the hold are permitted only on the grip.
- Molded grips are illegal.
- Be 2-5/8” or less in diameter at thickest part and 36 inches or less in length.
Not weigh, numerically, more than three ounces less than the length of the bat (e.g., a 33-inch-long bat cannot be less than 30 ounces).
Bats that are not made of a single piece of wood shall meet the Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution (BBCOR) performance standard, and such bats shall be labeled with a silkscreen or other permanent certification mark. No BBCOR label, sticker or decal will be accepted on any non-wood bat. The certification mark shall be rectangular, a minimum of one inch on each side and located on the barrel of the bat in any contrasting color to read: “BBCOR .50.”
NOTE: The NFHS has been advised that certain manufacturers consider alteration, modification and “doctoring” of their bats to be unlawful and subject to civil and, under certain circumstances, criminal action.
- NFHS 1-3-3 A bat made of a single piece of wood may be roughened or wound with tape not more than 18 inches from the handle end of the bat. No foreign substance may be added to the surface of the bat beyond 18 inches from the end of the handle. Each bat made of a single piece of wood shall be:
- NFHS 2-3/4 inches or less in diameter at the thickest part 36 inches or less in length
- NFHS 1-3-4 Only bats may be used in warming up (including weighted bats used for this purpose) at any location. Only bats and items designed to remain part of the bat, such as weighted bats, batting donuts, and wind-resistant devices are legal at any location.
- NFHS 1-3-5 Bats that are altered from the manufacturer’s original design and production, or that do not meet the rule specifications, are illegal (See 7-4-1a). No foreign substance may be inserted into the bat. Bats that are broken, cracked or dented or that deface the ball, i.e., tear the ball, shall be removed without penalty. A bat that continually discolors the ball may be removed from the game with no penalty at the discretion of the umpire.
Gloves/Mitts
- NFHS 1-3-6 Gloves/mitts made of leather shall be worn by all fielders and not be altered to create an adhesive, sticky, and/or tacky surface. The glove/mitt worn by the catcher may be any size.
- The glove/mitt worn by the pitcher that includes the colors white and/or gray shall be removed from the game upon discovery by either team and/or umpire.
-
NFHS 1-3-7 Loose equipment, such as gloves, bats, helmets or catcher’s gear, of either team may not be on or near the field.
PENALTY: If loose equipment interferes with play, the umpire may call an out(s), award bases or return runners, based on his/her judgment and the circumstances concerning the play.
6U Modified T-Ball
Game Duration:
Games have a duration of 1 hour and 15 minutes OR maximum 6 innings.
Games may start up to 30 minutes ahead of schedule. Teams are expected to be warmed up and ready.
During Pool Play, if there are less than 5 minutes remaining in the game, a new inning will not start; however, the home team will have the opportunity to finish the current inning if they are down.
*See the Cancellation Policy for inclimate weather or extenuating circumstances impacting schedule.
Classifications: Unless otherwise noted, 6U will play Level 2/AA (with 5 run cap per inning.)
Defense:
- 6 infielders (1 pitcher, 1 catcher) and 4 outfielders.
- Outfielders must stand in the grass outside of the infield line.
- Only two Outfield coaches. Coaches must stay behind the outfielders or in the grass-foul territory. One additional coach may stand directly outside the dugout area.
- The fielding pitcher cannot advance towards home plate until the ball is hit. If the pitcher moves toward home plate before the ball is hit, the offensive team gets the choice of the play or a walk.
- The fielding pitcher must stand with 1 foot of the pitching rubber when the Coach Pitcher is pitching. (To ensure clarity and consistency across different venues, the positioning of the player pitcher and coach pitcher will be addressed and mutually agreed upon by both coaches and umpires during the plate meeting. If there are any uncertainties or concerns regarding the placement of the coach or player, it is required that they be initially discussed with the head coach of record. Subsequently, the head coach of record must report any unresolved issues or discrepancies to the plate umpire for further resolution.)
- Time is called when the ball (at the umpires discretion) is thrown or run to the pitcher position or Pitching Coach. All runners already halfway to the next base will get that base. If runners are not yet half-way, then they will return to the previously touched base.
- Overthrows to first base: batter may advance to second at his/her own risk. Batter may not advance past second base. Only one extra base maximum is allowed and its at the runner's own risk.
- If a coach is hit with a thrown ball, the ball is dead, and runners cannot advance. If in the umpire's judgment, the coach did not make a legitimate attempt to avoid a thrown ball, the batter is declared out and no runners shall advance. In this case, the baserunners would be returned to their last occupied base.
Offense:
- There will be a continuous batting order. The entire roster must be batted through, in order without substitution.
- Each batter is allowed 5 coach pitches and 1 chance off the tee. The first 5 will be pitched by one of the coaches. The 6th will be hit off the tee. If a batter has not reached base after six attempts, the batter is out.
- Each team is allowed one warning if a batter throws the bat, after which any batter who throws a bat will be declared out.
- Player running the bases who deliberately removes his headgear is out.
- Balls hit from the tee will result in advance to first base for the batter runner. No other runners may advance unless it is a force. If it is a force, runners may advance a max of 1 base at their own risk. It is important to note that the defense still has the opportunity to make a play on the base runners, and the advancement is not guaranteed.
- Offensive Coach:
- The coach pitcher must pitch over handed.
- Any batted ball that hits the pitching coach will be a dead ball and a no pitch. If the pitching coach intentionally (in the umpire’s judgment) allows the ball to hit him/her, the batter will be out and a dead ball called. No runner may advance.
- The coach pitcher must attempt to leave the field and try to pick up the batter’s bat. The coach pitcher that does not attempt to get off the field and (at the umpire's judgement) interferes with the defensive player to keep him/her from making a play will cause the batter to be out. No runners advance.
- After a coach pitch is batted into play, the coach pitcher may not remain on the field in an attempt to coach base runners.
- If a ball is put in play off the tee, the offensive coach must move the tee immediately and pick up the bat to allow for safe base running to home.
- Pitching Coaches are allowed to verbally communicate to the batter
- If the pitching coach gets hit with a batted ball, the ball becomes dead and a no-pitch is declared.
All other rules, not explicitly covered within our guidelines, will be subject to the umpire's discretion and will follow the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) guidelines. In cases where there is no specific rule in the NFHS guidelines, the Official Baseball Rules will be referenced.
